The House Reno Goddess Kicks My Butt Instead

I did put aside the Sideways Spencer yesterday, as suggested by my lovely commenters. Instead I dug up brick pavers.

Having a bit of a chronic back problem, I took great care to make sure I changed position constantly, had a cushion to sit on (old vinyl couch cushions are great for this), and never lifted or reached too much or too far.

It did not occur to me that my hands, constantly gripping and lifting bricks, would get sore. Oh boy, did they get sore. By the evening I could barely hold a glass.

But it took several hours for the stiffening up to take effect, so I actually managed two hours weaving and a few more knitting my Blacksmith Socks.

Now for a fo I’ve been itching to blog about all week, but had to wait until the beau was ready to clear the kitchen table: Banana Runna!

I don’t like this yarn much. When I started winding the skeins into cakes I realised that it was just like sari silk – very overspun. I wondered if I’d have the same nightmares working with it. But after a few meters it was only slightly overspun.

The texture of this yarn is very much like sari silk, and I think it’s made by the same people. (In fact, the yarn was so similar I wondered if I and the seller had been jibbed, and this was just white sari silk.) I remembered that the seller told me that the government of the country it’s made in (Nepal? India?) wants to stop export of the yarn and have their people make garments out of it. Value-adding and all that.

That’s fine with me. I didn’t like working with sari silk and I would have hated knitting this banana yarn. Good think I wove it then. As a weft it wasn’t too bad to work with.

Hmm, and I just remembered how much dirt came out of the sari silk when I washed it. Better wash this well too.

What’s this?

Scarf sushi!

This is what I wove yesterday, using the same yarns as I used for the red scarf I made last year, but with a black metallic thread added to the black warp yarn. I gave away the other two red scarves. This one’s for me.
