Squares Jacket

The Squares Jacket was finally dry this morning, so I tried it on. At first I thought “Oh no. The gauge swatch lied!” as it was, well, rather tight fitting. The swatch had spread quite a bit after blocking, so I had chosen a size smaller to knit.

But after I pinned the front together I found it began to ‘relax’. That’s the only way I can describe it. The wool seemed to loose rigidity as it warmed, and then both mould itself to my shape and gain some drape. This is a little freaky, as if the garment is alive.

This is how much yarn I have left over. I had an extra ball of the ‘lichen’ colour, which was just as well. Before I started the sleeves I had begun to worry that I had enough yarn, so I worked out how many squares there were of each colour and shifted the colour pattern sideways one square so that the colours I needed the most of were the ones I had the most yarn for. I’m glad I did. Look at the amethyst purple (in the middle).

All I had left were a few scraps. And I’m pretty sure that colour is no longer available.
