Tori’s Socks

My Socks For Others Club socks #4 are done:

Aww. Cuuuute!

Aww. Cuuuute!

The pattern is Toddler Socks. Though they were a quick knit, it took me longer to make them because we’ve been spending evenings cleaning our deck in preparation for re-oiling it.

Now they’re done, I’ve drawn the second last parcel in my ‘lucky-dip’.

These are for Sandra. I chose the yarn because it reminded me of her cats. They’re Bengals, and the yarn colourway is called ‘tiger’. I’ll knit my plain toe-up pattern, probably with a short-row heel, so all the focus is on the tiger stripes.

This means the last pair in the club will be no surprise. They’re my Dad’s socks – the second attempt since the first ones were much too big.

  1. I’m about to start on my first pair of socks for a guy… I’m scared. I’m so afraid they will not turn out right. I’ve done dozens for women and kids, but never guys. I’m also going to knit a pair for my brother that will need to be made a little bigger for felting. I know they’ll get thrown in the dryer and end up felted so I may as well start them that way. I just don’t know how much bigger to make them.

    • Thing about men’s socks… they like ’em plain, and their feet are big, so there’s a lot of seemingly endless stocking stitch. If they’re going to be abused in the wash, go for robustness over softness and get brands like Regia and Opal. As for felting… can you knit a test swatch, measure it, run it through the dryer a few times, then measure it again?
