OS

Internet hasn’t been as accessible as I’d hoped, and whenever I’ve had it I’ve had only enough time to check my email and my bank account. Tonight the planets have aligned and I have both time and net, so I’ll give you a brief run down of my yarn adventures… or lack of them.

Hawaii. I bought one ball of dishcloth cotton at Wal-Mart so I could add a string to my sunhat. I did try to get to a yarn store. We had to wade through hot, humid air into industrial slums full of homeless people to get to it and when we got there it was closed.

New York. We got to Seaport Yarns. I bought some handdyed sock yarns, and some Cascade 220, and some magazines. I also found Socks From the Toe Up in a bookshop at Grand Central Station.

Montreal. Too busy to get to a yarn store, since I’d have to take a train to the closest of them.

Atlantic Canada. Visited London-Wul in Moncton, where I bought some bison blend yarn, and some baby alpaca dyed by the friendly shop owner, Heidi. Lovely shop and people.

We’ll be passing through Baddeck tomorrow or the day after, so we’ll pop into Baadeck Yarns. I’m trying to stick to small amounts of unique Canadian yarn. We were given lots of free books in New York and Montreal, so there’s not as much room in my suitcase as I was hoping!

As far as knitting goes, I’ve finished the circular shrug with sleeves, and I’m at the heel of the second Socks for Others socks. The shrug gave me a lot of grief when it came to the sewing. But that’s a story for another post.

Hope to post again soon. And post photos…

  1. It all sounds like a lot of hectic fun. I think being discriminating about the yarn you purchase is a good idea: though I am sure I would do the opposite!!!
